Chill Blue – Relaxation and Peace

via Daily Prompt: Relax

I started an entire blog about mental rest, peace (calm delight), and emotional stability. I also started writing about physical relaxation through a simpler, healthier diet and some basic exercise.

There are quite posts about the “peace from God” and how it has a stabilizing effect on the human soul to guard your hearts and minds.

I’ve also been spending time outdoors and taking snapshots and doing some digital editing and posting the photos. Mainly the photos are of trees, marsh landscapes, winter landscapes, “northwoods” landscapes, and whatever I’m happening upon.

I hope pointing to my blog follows rules. In this case I think it could pass because its theme is, essentially, “Relax.”

Focus on the reality of true peace.

I started this to write and learn new ideas for resting emotionally because life had been crazy. And I was tired, physically.

Yet, everything real that provides peace (calm delight) for a grace believer is based on the word of God. The provisions for the grace believer are the only real solutions for true soul stability. I should know better than to look for cheap replacements that provide only a measure of short-term relief! So, there is going to be a lot of writing, explaining what God has provided. So, when you accept the Peace Treaty, then you too can have access to the Lasting Peace, which is a truly Useful Peace, and it provides a location of Restful Peace.

That being said, it seems I’m getting some relief from insomnia by trying melatonin. I’ve had a few good nights of sleep (anything over 6-7 hours is win for me). I’d like to try and sleep longer. I’ve eliminated extra sugar and grains which simplifies my diet. My $17 fitness tracker has been a big success. I am considering upgrading. I had a $30 one in my hand. I realized the $17 version already has the desired effect on a daily basis. It counts my steps and quantifies my sleep. It lets me set goals and it bumps me to get up after being sedentary for a period.

I’ve been getting out of my chair and doing “Super Body, Super Brain” (exercises that challenge your coordination too).

Be careful about nothing.

Philippians 4:6-7 (Darby Translation): Be careful about nothing; but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses every understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts by Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 (Darby Translation)

Be careful about nothing means be anxious about nothing.

By prayer (worship): reflecting back to God his attributes proper, giving Him is full weight. Reflecting on His character.

  • True: see Titus 1:2 (God cannot lie.)
  • Right (Righteous. Always does the right thing.)
  • All-knowing (God knows all events in succession, at once.)
  • All-powerful: see John 1:1-5
  • Love: see 1 John 4:10
  • Good (Happy making.)
  • Holy (Distinctly identified and set apart. There is nothing like the God of the Bible).

By supplication:

  • Supplication is a cry for help for someone else or for the believer himself or herself.

With thanksgiving:

  • With thanksgiving, you thank God for a thing and think about the attribute or attributes of God on display in the process of having given it to you. Thanksgiving is an essential manifestation of the filling of the Holy Spirit.  It is the only type of communication with God that is an indicator of Spirit filling.

Let your requests be made known to God.

… And the “the peace from God” that surpasses every understanding and it shall guard your hearts, and thoughts by Jesus Christ.

Resting contradiction

I write about mental and emotional rest. We all want it. But I’m suffering with insomnia and I’m missing my physical rest. I have the same problem every year during these shortest days of the year. Instead of getting depressed I go the opposite direction. Energy abounds. It’s not really sustainable.

Penciled B&W

It’s an interesting time when you’re not getting much sleep. It’s not good for your brain (it manifests in memory problems, for example) and it’s easy to get irritable, or wordy. On the other hand, a lot gets done that might not otherwise.

At least I can be confident God is working in my circumstances because He’s leading me in triumph of something special He accomplished.

2 Corinthians 2:14-18 Darby Translation (DARBY)

14 But thanks [be] to God, who always leads us in triumph in the Christ, and makes manifest the odour of his knowledge through us in every place.

Note: (triumph in) “the Christ” is a term that refers to Jesus Christ plus the “Body of Christ.”  He is the head. Christians collectively (“in Christ ones”) comprise the body. Together, we are the entity referred to as “the Christ,” in some Bible contexts. God leads believers in the triumph of His win on the cross and we follow along spreading a smell. A smell of his knowledge. It’s a sweet smell, to God, despite the fact that some people smell an odor of death, leading to death (by choice),  while others smell an aroma of life leading to life (by choice).

15 For we (the aforementioned ones that that make up the body portion of “the Christ”) are a sweet odour of Christ to God, in the saved and in those that perish:

16 to the one an odour from death unto death, but to the others an odour from life unto life; and who [is] sufficient for these things?

Who is sufficient for these things?

17 For we do not, as the many, make a trade of the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as of God, before God, we speak in Christ.

When I’m sharing Bible information I’m trying to put forth accurate information to the best of my ability. The verses do the talking. Any ancillary thoughts I come up with myself, are basically conjecture. When I explain a definition, that I’ve taken from other locations in the Bible, that is still accurately peddling information. That is known as comparing scripture with scripture. The Bible often defines its concepts from other places in the Bible. If I add my own ideas I’m stepping outside the boundaries of the knowledge of God being spread. My own ideas are not necessarily “wrong” but just take them with a grain of salt. They’re often from personal experiences and trying to help others understand my points of view.

A Lasting Peace

A mature oak displays its strength and longevity.

Here, in John 14, Jesus speaks to the disciples in the upper room about leaving them with a lasting and new quality of peace. A God-quality of peace. This information was given just shortly before His own self-sacrificing death for our sins, burial, and resurrection.

Jesus says:

John 14:27 Darby Translation (DARBY)

27 “I leave peace with you; I give *my* peace to you: not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it fear.”

Jesus left Christians (“in Christ ones”) with a kind of peace that remains. His type of peace gives the ability to have a heart (center of reasoning) that is neither troubled nor fearful. The peace from God is distinctly different than the world’s type of peace. God’s peace is not dependent on smooth circumstances, negotiated alliances, or cease-fires.

God’s Peace Treaty

  1. There is lasting peace (calm delight) “given by” God.
  2. Also, there is a “peace treaty” from God toward the world.

These are two different concepts about “peace.” This post is about the peace treaty. God is at peace with the world because of His peace treaty. How is He at peace with the world?

2 Corinthians 5:19 (Darby)

*****How that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their offenses; and putting in us the word of that reconciliation. *****

That’s the simplicity of the peace treaty. The term “not reckoning” means “not putting in your account.” That’s an accounting term; a banking term.

On a personal level, that means God is not tallying your personal offenses against Him, in a ledger.

Here is something to think about regarding the God of the Bible. God knows “all events in succession, at once.” That is His attribute proper known as “omniscience.” He is not surprised by anything. For example, He is not surprised by our sins.

God is satisfied by the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ for our sins, His burial, and His resurrection. That is real, actual good news. It’s not so-called “fake news.”

In 1 John 4:10 we learn that God extended love to us first in an event. “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the satisfying sacrifice (propitiation) for our sins.”

So, God is fully satisfied (propitiated) by Christ’s work on behalf of our sins. All the sins having been committed already and all the sins to be committed in the future. He knows them all.

Are you satisfied with the terms of the peace treaty? It is fully seated upon His satisfaction with Christ’s finished work. That is the basis for the treaty. That’s its firm foundation.

You only accept the terms of the peace treaty with God, on those terms. It’s been recorded that way. It’s codified and recorded in the word of God, which is the Bible.

Sitting is the new smoking?

I heard that “sitting is the new smoking.” I don’t smoke, but I sit all day. What they’re implying is that it is very unhealthy to sit all day.

Stand up

So, we need to stand up. We need to move around. “Get the blood flowing…” and that seems reasonable.

So, rather than spend money on a special desk that when I want to stand and down when I want to sit, I spent the money on two giant monitors and put one above the other.

With Microsoft Windows (and I’m sure Apple products), you can mirror your displays or you can extend your displays across the monitors. When I’m sitting, I use both monitors to increase my screen real estate. Maybe I’ll put my “to do” list or email client on the top monitor and work on the bottom monitor.

When I’m standing, I’ll only use the top monitor only. It’s a giant and it is at eye level when I’m standing. It is a 39-inch LED HDTV. It was $200. Element brand.  The bottom monitor is slightly smaller. But it’s still really big. It is a 32-inch LED HDTV. Same brand. It was $133. They work great.

New fitness tracker! $17.

In addition, I thought I’d try a Fitbit.  But not a real Fitbit.  A low-cost version of a fitness tracker, to see if I like using one. This thing is awesome. Bluetooth paired it with the app immediately and easily (Android phone). It tracks my steps and calories. It measures sleep. It remotely fires the camera on my phone. It has an alarm for when I’m being a slug (sedentary). For $17.

$17 fitness tracker that works.

Yes, I would like one that has GPS so I can download track information into my mapping applications I use for hunting.  That way I don’t have to leave those applications up and running while I’m hunting. But I’ll see how this goes first!

Simplified sustenance

“…food and drink regarded as a source of strength; nourishment.”

Sometimes we should simplify our diets. Science is showing us “western diets” are creating metabolic syndrome leading to type 2 diabetes (essentially, insulin resistance and fat accumulation), and type 3 diabetes (some forms of dementia).

My experiment is going well.

  • Chicken, fish, and red meat
  • Healthy fats
  • Carbohydrates in the form of greens (steamed or raw)
  • Eggs
  • Cheeses
  • Water, seltzer water, and coffee

  • Sugar in all forms
  • Alcohol
  • Grains
  • Fruit juice

The low-carbohydrate style diet has done many things in three weeks.

  • Spawned creativity and energized me to go outside!
  • Normalized my blood pressure due to the diet’s diuretic nature.
  • Alleviated food allergies that manifest in skin issues and heart palpitations.
  • Allowed 15 pounds of weight loss, mainly excess water (without a doubt, the water that was causing the high blood pressure). The weight loss will slow now.

Once I’m within 15 pounds of a healthy goal weight I’ll add back:

  • Certain berries
  • Some dairy
  • Some beans

It turns out Atkins was right and nutritionists are agreeing. Low-fat diets are not healthy for your brain or liver. Low-carbohydrate diets are sustainable and healthy with regard to weight loss, cholesterol panels, food allergies, and blood pressure.

My WordPress site is just one example of the creativity a simple diet change is causing.

There remains then a rest…

Hebrews 4:11 Darby Translation (DBY)

11 Let us therefore use diligence to enter into that rest, that no one may fall after the same example of not hearkening to the word.

Hebrews 4:10-16 Darby Translation (DBY)

Seeing therefore it remains that some enter into it, and those who first received the glad tidings did not enter in on account of not hearkening to the word,

again he determines a certain day, saying, in David, ‘To-day,’ after so long a time; (according as it has been said before), To-day, if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

For if Jesus had brought them into rest, he would not have spoken afterwards about another day.

There remains then a sabbatism [rest] to the people of God.

10 For he that has entered into his rest, he also has rested from his works, as God did from his own.

11 Let us therefore use diligence to enter into that rest, that no one may fall after the same example of not hearkening to the word.

12 For the word of God [is] living and operative, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and penetrating to [the] division of soul and spirit, both of joints and marrow, and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of [the] heart.

13 And there is not a creature unapparent before him; but all things [are] naked and laid bare to his eyes, with whom we have to do [give an account].

14 Having therefore a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast the confession.

15 For we have not a high priest not able to sympathise with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

16 Let us approach therefore with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and find grace for seasonable help.

  • As we can see in verse 12, God makes a distinction between the human “spirit” and the human “soul.” Both have distinct purposes and interact with each other. The human spirit is the center for logic and reasoning. It is also the area of the mind that interacts with the Spirit of God through the written word of God. The human “soul” processes physical life (e.g. our five senses come to mind first) and the soul is described as the seat of our emotions. Taking the information from the written word of God into our human spirit causes an opportunity to have a stabilized soul (i.e., our emotions). Stability is peace. The peace from my God is calm delight. Let calm delight from God rule and umpire your soul despite your current circumstances. You will not find these distinctions by talking to a psychologist or by looking inside yourself for answers to these questions! God exposes and reveals this information by simply telling it to us in written form. He knows you. He knows how you were made. He knows your internal components. He created you and knew you in your mother’s womb.

1 Peter 5:6-7 Darby Translation (DBY)

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in [the due] time; having cast all your care (anxieties) upon him, for he cares about you.

Organize your calm delight.

Joy is calm delight. You could have it now. Quiet your mind. Look at something within reach that you are thankful for. Touch it. Maybe it’s a book. Open it. Maybe it’s a mug. Wash it. Maybe it’s a photograph. Put it where you can see it.

Take a picture of your computer wires. Now shut off your computer and methodically organize your computer wires. Do your best but spend no more than five or ten minutes doing it. Take another picture when you’re done.

Come back to

My effort was not perfect. But that’s fine. As you can see, this is much improved and happy making! This simple organization task made my day more enjoyable!
